Re: Potential mistake in STAADpro Design for compression member according Australian Code AS4100

I did a quick check using the Third edition American LRFD code. On page 4-63, for a 16.4 ft (5 meters) effective length, the compression capacity of a HSS4X4X1/4 of 46 ksi steel is approximately 42 kips, which comes to 186 kN. Ratio is hence 156/186 = 0.8

In your model, the yield strength for member 9 is 345 MPa, which is equal to 50 ksi steel. So, I would expect the capacity to be higher and the ratio to be lower than 0.8.

The capacity per AS4100 should be in the same range. Thus, the ratio of 0.665 seems OK to me.
