I have a model that is using a custom section that was built with Section Wizard. I am trying to get a code check and utilization ratio from this section/member. The section is a tub40403 with a 1/4"x3" plate on the two sides. The section was input into Staad as a General section.
When the frame is analyzed, it does give me a ratio, but the ratio is extreme. When I use a just a plain tub40403 the ratio fails, but is reasonable. I am doing the code check with the Canadian Code. I also tried to use the older Canadian 2001 code, but I get the same result. I also tried to check with a US code, so I used LRFD code as a check. Using this code, it gives me a reasonable ratio.
I attached the file for review.
What is the issue with the Canadian code? Can the Canadian code do a utilization check properly with Generic Sections?
