Master/Slave Specs definition

Can anyone explain in easy way about master/slave specification?

How does it work and when to use it not only for Floor diaphragms but also to simple column-pedestal connection.

Problems associated with modelling of abutment of bridges? What is the actual approach?

I am trying to compare the vertical reaction I am getting in piles of an abutment of a 15m span railway bridge with manual calculation. I have modeled the abutment but the reaction I am getting is not representing the actual scenario. I am getting warnings where the statement being made by the software is "elements are between same joints", How can I fix this. Also I am getting negative reaction in the rear end piles and also a very high vertical reaction in the front piles which is a lot higher when I compare it with manual calculation. But, in another model which has been prepared by someone else. I am inputting the same braking force and vertical loads in the bearing but, I am getting low vertical reactions. I have attached my model which has a lot of problems named (abutment 1) and another model which is giving lower values for in terms of vertical load.(Please visit the site to view this file)

In the file name 6.9.16 1 Table section, I assigned the property taken from the table (From section database-PIP1524M). For this property, the beams (No's- 4945 to 4948, 4927, 4929, 4933, 4934, 4914, 4928, 4919, 4937,4915, 4921, 4930, 4939) are failing in compression. For the same loading case(File name 6.9.16 1 user defined), I assigned the USER DEFINED property of same dimensions as PIP1524M, in this case all beams are getting passed and the actual ratio difference is 27. Please clarify why the results are varying.

Deflection check for T-Beam Girder

When i analysis a T-Beam girder with prismatic properties the deflection value coming less  than a general T-Beam , Analysis  with General properties. Why ?

RAM Elements Updates?

Are we to expect RAM elements updates any time soon, or have they stopped?  I know STAAD(X) has been pushed out, but what does that mean for Elements?  The last update available was 11/2015.

STAAD.PRO Moving Load Generator Warning

Good Morning!

I have attached my STAAD 2D model of a truss with a moving load generator which when run is giving me an warning message. The warning message reads "No Members in specified Vertical Range". The moving load is being applied to level and straight beams.

Can someone please provide some guidance? Thanks.

Vertical Forces from Shear Walls on Elevated Slabs in Ram

In the case of a multistory building with a Podium level and several stories of wood framing above, I want to be able to capture the effect of the vertical reaction components of the wood shear walls on the podium slab when designing the concrete gravity columns below the podium.  In the concrete module, no lateral combinations are run in the analysis so I don't think this is taken in to account.  In the frame module Ram only checks the lateral elements.  Is there a way that I can get the vertical reactions from the shear walls sitting on the podium into the gravity columns?

I calculated the moment of inertia for tube4002008 mm  10288cm3 but it is quite different from the given value in STAAD property table.I know the formula BH3/12 -bh3/12 . kindly answer me as soon as possible.

STAAD FRF (Frequency Response Function)

Hello,

After reading the latest "Design Guide 11: Vibrations of Steel-Framed Structural Systems Due to Human Activity (Second Edition)", it calculates FRF (Frequency Response Function) using a commercial software.

I wonder how I can calculate the FRF using STAAD.PRO.

I was able to get the modal frequencies and the mass participation factors but I don't know how to convert this to FRF.

RAM SS defect updates

Trying to follow up on the following defects affecting design and reporting.  These do not appear to have been corrected in the latest release.  Any update on anicipated fix?

Defect #215695:  ACI 318-05 10.11.5 limited kl/r to 100 unless a non-linear, second-order analysis was completed (not possible in RAM SS). This provision was removed in ACI 318-08.

 

Defect #221969:  ACI 318-05 10.13.5 accounted for cases where the maximum moment was between the ends of sway members. This provision was also removed in ACI 318-08. As noted in the v14.00.04 release notes, this provision was also removed from the RAM Concrete Column design procedure beginning with that version. However, the provision was still listed in the Design Report even though it is was no longer used in the design workflow. This defect is more of a reporting problem rather than a design defect.

Dear Team,

I have modeled Haunch moment (Column-Beam) connection in Ram connection version 11.0 (stand alone). I can run this connection with BS 5950 code but if I change design code to AISC ASD or LRFD it gives error saying connection type is not compatible.

My design code requirement is AISC ASD-05 for this connection design , please advise how to model this connection in RAM connection to make it compatible with ASD.

Building Weight for Seismic Calculations in Ram

I have a model in which the sum of the diaphragm masses listed in the Frame module table does not equal the building weight used for determination of the seismic base shear once the analysis has run.  Is there a situation where this would be correct?  Is there a more detailed printout of how Ram is calculating the building weight at each level for the seismic force other than in the "load and applied forces" report?

Sir I have registered for the course STAAD pro Advanced Analysis Engine,having registration order ID 199272. I was also been confirmed for the course via email but sir I could not find the join link for the class so that I can attend the class on time. I am suppose to attend the class on 8-09-2016 at 8:30 IST as mentioned to me via email.

Hence as I am going to attend the live training sessions for the first time I failed to understand the actual procedure how to attend live trainings so please guide me for the same at the earliest as the training is about to be held tonight.

STAAD CODE CHECK NS3472 VS EC3

Hi

I am designing unique steel structures for the offshore industry, mostly with box sections.

In the old days we have used the Norvegian code check - NS3472, together with prismatic sections and everything worked fine.

Today we must use EuroCode (NS is outdated) and unfortunately the EC check cannot handle prismatic sections as the Norvegian code check did.

I wonder if anyone knows a workaround this problem? Will they improve EC codecheck to the level of NS in future?

Any other way to input section data for a unique box section, which will be handled by STAAD?

Yes, I have read the answers about prismatic section does not giving enough information, which is absolutely not correct,

as it works perfectly for NS codecheck. In the past I have done many hand checks to see if the NS codecheck process was correct

and yes it was.

Dear all,

I'm relatively new to STAAD.Pro and having a bit of an issue with displaying code check results.

Once I run the analysis and code checks, I look at the ANL file and only the code check Utilisation Ratios for the worst Load Combination is recorded for each member.

How can I display Utilisation Ratios for all Load Combinations?
