Maximum number of characters that can be used in joint, member, and plate names?

I am modelling a large structure in STAAD V8i SS6, and have been asked to establish some logic for relating joint, member and plate names to their approximate locations within the structure.  What is the maximum number of characters that can be used in joint, member, and plate names?

Hello,
I have designed API tank with truss type roof without central column. The STAAD model is with plate elements for the shell and the beams for the roof structure. Inside the model there are several groups for the purpose of facilitating work on it and presentation design results. The model is with applied earthquake, wind, hydrostatic pressure, live and dead load.
The design and its result have presented to the inspection agency and I've got, among the other remarks, following response:
'We do not wish to be drawn into checking your entire models as that is not within our scope. You may consider appropriate substructuring approach to consider roofing system.'
I'm interested in what that actually means and how to meet client's demand.

Deflection Amplification Factor Cd

As per ASCE 7 deflection amplification factor Cd=3 to be use for my structure which is cantilever car park.

My question is do I have to multiply both vertical as well horizontal deflection due to seismic load by Cd value  to check the serviceabilty condition.of vertical deflection of span/180 at the cantilever end?

Or this amplification factor is to be applied for the horizontal deflection(DRIFT)?

Please can someone clarify?

Change command and DOF Error

I am using the change command to run a model with different supports. so i have the first model with the below constants:-

SUPPORTS
82 83 FIXED BUT FX FY MX MY MZ
94 TO 97 121 FIXED BUT FY FZ MX MY MZ
130 FIXED BUT FX FZ MX MY MZ

then i introduce the change command and use the below constraints, essentially removing two supports and adding one back at a different node.

SUPPORTS
82 83 FIXED BUT FX FY MX MY MZ
94 TO 95 121 TO 122 FIXED BUT FY FZ MX MY MZ
130 FIXED BUT FX FZ MX MY MZ

However when i run this i get the following error:-

*ERROR- TOTAL DOF AFTER CHANGE COMMAND MUST NOT EXCEED THE TOTAL DOF
BASED ON FIRST SET OF SUPPORTS. YOU MAY TRY REVERSING THE ORDER OF SUPPORT SETS AND CASES.
ORIGINAL TOTAL DOF = 760
PRESENT TOTAL DOF = 761

How do I solve this? do I just swap them round and run the model with fewer supports first? or is there something else I can do?

Getting value of Mx, My, Mz Zero (0) when I try to get reaction Forces in respective directions, For example If I on the Wind load on structure in Z direction then am getting Mz value '0' same for others as well like Mx and My.

2. The Second question is that is it the reactions we get from Reaction Summary table gives us with respect to local Axis or global Axis.

RAM Frame "..Except for the Uppermost Level"

Below is a screen shot of a RAM Frame dialog noting that wind load will be ignored by the program due to no lateral members at the particular level.  Can someone explain what the last portion, "..Except for the Uppermost Level" means?

I an getting the warning as ***WARNING - INSTABILITY AT JOINT 463 DIRECTION = FY.

I am analyzing Table Top Equipment Support Concrete Structure.

Equipment is Reactor. This Equipment is supported by Concrete Table Top with a hole in the center.

My intent is to apply  Wind shear load at the Center of Force and Seismic shear force at CG of Equipment.

The Wind/Seismic Shear forces from the equipment need to resolve as Shear and Tension/Compression. 

Would Master and Slave Commands be helpfull?

RAM Concept PT Tendons Outside Beam Profile in Perspective View

I have a PT beam that has a large number of tendons (102 currently) in a 48x65 profile. These tendons will need to be in at least 2 layers when the beam is constructed (CGS has been adjusted knowing this) but in the perspective view of the tendons they are all drawn in one layer which shows 6 tendons outside of the beam. There are no errors saying the tendons are outside the shape so my question is about how Concept treats these tendons. Is the perspective view just a rough visual representation and the program concentrates the forces into a single line that follows the profile I've set? Or are these tendons actually outside of the shape and will the program not capture their contribution correctly?

With the 102 tendons my peak beam stress is currently 400 psi and if I increase that count to an unrealistic huge number, like 200, then my stresses increase to over 600 psi which makes we think the program does not actually view the tendons as being outside the shape since all of those additional tendons are added outside of the beam profile if they are placed in one layer.

Index Out of Range Error on STAAD Beava

Hi,

I am trying to set up a bridge model using STAAD and the Beava add on. When I try to generate live loads I am getting an error while the model is generating the roadway surface. The error is 'Index out of range'. Could somebody describe what this means and how to fix it?

Hi everybody,

We have a problem with a Staad model that we received from a customer. When we open it, the profiles don't have Physical Properties Ay, Az, Ix and Iz. Staad can't calculate with this situation.


We checkered the database configuration and all seems correct.

Any idea?
