RE: STAAD Foundation Analysis Problems

Once I did this - I got better results and a normal looking output. I dont know if this was in one of the tutorials, but I didnt see it in the Mat tutorial on YouTube. This would be a helpful and informative addition.

Thanks for your suggestions and assistance.

Pile supported mat foundation

While trying to check existing mat foundation piles for new loads I am experiencing some problems with the output that STAAD foundations is giving me.  I am getting large displacements in the mat (-152,144 ft) in the Y direction and large rotations (-37,318 deg) about the X axis with a three foot thick mat.  Any idea what I am doing wrong with the software?

Regarding query 2:

Which version of RAM Connection are you using?

Regarding query 1:

Let me have a check, i will get back to you.

Where to check the exact version number from?

I opened this file and it worked fine on my computer. There was no crash.

Are you facing the crash only with this particular model or any model?

Try opening a example model from C:\SProV8i SS5\STAAD\Examp,

If Staad crashes again, try these following steps:

1.   Close all  STAAD.Pro applications

2.   Go to Start menu ->click Run-> type REGEDIT ,click Ok. The Registry Editor window will appear,

3.   Please go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER  ->Software->Research Engineers->StaadPro->select 2007 and delete it.

4.   Close the registry editor window and re-open STAAD.Pro V8i and see if you have the same problem.

Open RAM Connection and click on the small question mark (?) at the top right corner, then click on About and you can see the exact version number.

I guess you are using 8.0.0.23, there has been some graphics problem in that version which has been fixed in the present version (8.0.0.34). Update to the latest version.

I haven't have any problems opening other files and I tried the registry solution and it didn't help.

However I copied the STD file from our network server to my desktop and it opened fine.  The network path is quite long, so I put it in a folder with a shorter name, and it worked.

Is there's a limit on the path length that STAAD can open from?

The total path length including the file name length is 256 characters, we think. We have to get it confirmed from the developers.

You could try placing it on a folder on the network drive whose name-length is shorter.

Yes, I was opening the file off the (mapped) network drive.  This is how we've always worked in the past and we don't experience any problems.

The path length problem is due to the way our folders are organised, but I can find a way around it.

Regarding query 2:

A ST connection can only transfer the Shear Force, it does not transfer axial force or moment.  For this reason, in the design view, the axial force is not being reported. See the attached picture.

I created a STAAD model a while ago.  I now need to make some alterations to it but when I open the file STAAD.pro crashes.

I have tried again and get offered safe recovery, but STAAD crashes again.

I made a copy of just the .std file (deleted all the other files associated with the model) and tried opening it, but STAAD crashes again.

I had a look at the contents of the .std file and there weren't any really obvious errors.  Normally if there is an error in my .std file STAAD will say it can't open it and drop me into the input file editor.

Could someone else try and open the file or have a look to see what might be wrong with it?

In the event of problems such as the crash you encountered, we recommend that you open the STAAD.Pro model from a local drive. You can also turn on a notification warning in the STAAD.Pro configuration settings if the model is being opened from a network drive, as shown in the figure above.

Ah got your point. Thank you for your time and quick response.

I will get it updated.

Problem with ST connection.

Hello,

Can someone help me with these 2 queries:

1.I have used a ST Shear connection, through the input view, I have given the shear and axial load in the load case. When viewing the report, the load data did not show the axial load, although in the input I have entered the load.

2.After Analysis the Bolts and WT Flanges mess up.

Thanks In Advance.

I have reviewed the model. There are two mats on piles modelled using meshed plates. The supports are being provided by the piles which idealized as springs in the three orthogonal directions. It is very important that the spring supports are supported to the mat. I have re-meshed the model so that the spring supports are properly connected to the nodes of the mat. The modified model has been attached.

RE: Diaphragm action for seismic analysis

If you are using IS: 1893 (Part-I)-2002 code for seismic analysis, there has been specific guideline on the consideration of diaphragm effect on the model. The code is allowing the designer to consider Rigid Diaphragm for reinforced concrete monolithic slab-beam floors or those consisting of prefabricated/ precast elements with topping reinforced screed. The following condition has been proposed to evaluate the flexibility of a diaphragm.

On evaluating the proper type of diaphragm, you need to model them in the model. STAAD.Pro allows you to model RIGID DIAPHRAGM. The following picture demonstrate the process that you can adopt to define rigid diaphragm in your model. A sample model has been attached.

How to consider the diaphragm action of slab in the analysis for seismic loading?
