Reactions in graphics screen too dense to be useful

Whenever I have a large number of closely spaced supports there are so many text showing the reactions that it's just about useless. Here's a view showing what I am talking about.

This is a base plate and column modeled using plate elements. I've looked for a way to turn these off while in the "Reactions" tab but I can't find it. Is there a way? If not, I recommend this feature be added to the program. In the meantime, I do know that you can select each individual text and move it. That can work if it's just moderately cluttered but not a case like this. You can also just pick a few nodes and create a new view for a less cluttered view.

Pricing for staad pro

Hi

Our company have decided to use connect subscription and planning to get the best deal for staadpro. There are 3 options to choose from 1.staadpro 2.staadpro advance 3.structural enterprise. I need a comparison of each option with pricing and available modules (staad foundation advance, limcon, connection design, etc).

I believe that we have an on-going 3 year licensing for staadpro select and yesterday got the approval to switch to connect. Is there additional license charge switching to connect? What if we download staadpro advance or structural enterprise, what is the cost impact for a year of subscription ?

Thanks for the reply.

How to connect Ram Element Connect Edition and Ram Connection

Dear Bentley,

I have bought license configuration for Structural Enterprise Package and have installed the software form that package. The software are working properly but I have no idea how to connect each other. For example, I want to connect RAM Element Connect Edition with Ram Connection Connect Edition but I don't know how. I have seen some videos making connection design in RAM Element. But my software doesn't have module for connection. Can anyone tell me what to do?

SFA - Mat Foundation Supported by Piles

When piles support a mat foundation in STAAD Foundation Advanced where are the top of the piles assumed to be located for flexural analysis and punching shear checks?  Are they assumed to be at the base of the mat foundation?  Most concrete piles are embedded 3 to 4 inches into the bottom of the pile cap/mat foundation.  Can I account for this by having the design thickness = analysis thickness - 3 inches?

Facing Some Issues - STAAD.Pro CONNECT Edition (Version 21.00.02.43)

I cannot use the following functionalities which were available in the Previous version like SS6.

  1. Quick way of accessing most of the commands like 'View Selected Objects Only' by using key combinations like Alt+v+v.
  2. Using the Tab button to move from one form control (like Textbox) to another from control e.g., While applying a new member load, to move between W1, d1, d2 and d3, previously I could use the Tab button which now seems not working.
  3. Is there an updated OpenSTAAD version available for the CONNECT Edition. I can see the updated documentation but I am sure if the updated version of the OpenSTAAD module is available.
  4. While applying the design parameters in Steel Design, if select the members by using 'Group Selection', parameters dialog (sometimes) does NOT update the options like 'Assign To Selected Beams'.
  5. Labels for Nodes, Beams, Plates etc., gets reset every time when the application is restarted or the mode is changed (from Analytical Modeling to Postprocessing etc.)
  6. A pop-up is displayed repeatedly saying 'Results database not available' even when the analysis is in progress. Snapshot is attached.

Apart from these features issues, STAAD.Pro freezes frequently (showing a black screen or a blurred image) for a long time when I switch from one tab like Geometry to another e.g., Loading especially when working on reasonably larger models (with input file size of about 4MB)

These may NOT be bugs but I wanted to know if I am missing something to get these features.

Lifting Analysis : Members's parameter LY,LZ,UNL under lifting condition

Dear All,

1) I have modeled a truss under lifting condition.

2) Members in compression always fail since it is unrestrained during lifting stage.

3) Any guide line to check members capacity during lifting stage?

RAM Connections crashes because of a file not been found

While running RAM connection from STAAD Pro CONNECT Edition , I wanted to design a gusset base plate and when RAM looked for the template a message pop up stating that "Connection.con" does not exist and then crashes. what is this file for? in the previous versions of RAM there is no file named like that, how can I fix this problem?

Displacement vs. Drift

I have done a building, and I need to design expansion joints around some CMU shafts to avoid loading them.  When I do the Results - Drift sheet, I see I am given displacements and drifts.  When I am designing this expansion joint, which number do I take and multiply by Cd to get my amplified deflection.  The story drift is much less than the displacement.  My assumption is the drift is relative to the floor below, while the displacement is relative to base elevation?  By that, I think I need to use the displacement as the expansion joint size.

RAM Frame Member Forces

Hello,

I'm wondering how RAM Frame calculates the 'Member Forces' of a lateral wall element?  Is this value the maximum value from the wall element, or an averaged value?

The reason I'm wondering is that I have imported my RAM Frame model into RAM Elements to use the masonry module, which uses Design strips.  I'm getting slightly different values for each load case between Frame and Elements, and am trying to determine why.

Concrete Mix in Post-Tension Module

Hello,

The concrete mix value denoted in my RAM Concept Post-Tension model is denoted in SI units whereas everything else is in US units (including the thickness in the same interface). Is there an error with my model or is this standard. Please see image below for clarification. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Jason

RAM Connection bolt shear assumptions

I am using RAM Connection stand alone to evaluate a moment end plate connection.  The results are good.  One nuance that I noticed is that the two bolts near the internal flange that are not in tension carry all of the shear load and the four bolts that carry tension are not loaded in shear.  I don't disagree with this assumption but I couldn't find it in the AISC design guides.  Is this documented anywhere?

Do I need to skip load the live load around column while using AISC 360-10 in RAM Steel Column? Also why is this important?

PT through Slab Step and Upturned Beam

$

Ram Concept community,

I have a question regarding the correct modeling practices for a PT two-way slab with a significant step.

In my particular case, my slab step is occurring at mid-span perpendicular to my bundled tendons, and I have upturned beams supporting the beam at the step. The lower slab is pitched varying between 10" and 16" thick with a superimposed dead load to account for a topping slab pitched in the other direction. The upper slab is 8" thick with wide shallows spanning 45 ft.

Since there is only a 4 in. x  24 in. window to sweep the tendons into the upturned beam (upper slab is 8" thick, upturn beam - 24" W x 26" D, beam step - 24" W x 30" D), I have to anchor a majority of the bundled tendons into the beam step at a location of highest positive moment (bottom stress) across my design strip. See images.

Has anyone seen this type of design in the past, and could there be failure modes that Ram Concept is not accounting for? I have split up my design strip across the step, forcing the program to consider a PT slab before the step and a mild inverted T-beam beyond the step.

I will try to upload my model for clarification.

Thank you for your time and I look forward to the suggestions.

Design of Structural Plate over grade to Support Truck Load.

I wanna design a Structural Plate(1.6m x 1.6m) over a ditch (1m wide) to support axle load of the truck of 36ton. Plate will be supported on Ballast (95% Compacted) 0.3m on both ends.

Can someone guide me how I can model this one in Staad Pro?

Should have to draw a plate of 1.6x1.6 & assign property of plate as "Steel" &  assign pin support at all four ends and then put a load of 18ton in the middle of plate and analyse?

Your kind support in this regards will be highly appreciated.
